AMD's FSR Upscaling 4.1 arrives on the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20 on October 23 as a preview GPU driver. ASUS announced the date on October 20, the same day AMD released Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 and added Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A handhelds to the list of chips that support its machine-learning upscaler.

## How to get it on an Ally

ASUS ships the driver through Armoury Crate SE. Its steps:

1. Open Armoury Crate SE and go to **Update Center > Preview Updates**, then install the new GPU driver.
2. Open the Command Center, press Y to edit the layout, add the new FSR tile and turn it on.
3. Start a supported game and turn FSR on in its graphics menu.

ASUS warns that a preview build "may still contain bugs or instability". If you'd rather wait, ASUS says the update moves to the Official Updates tab once it leaves preview and will then roll out automatically.

## What changes on the handheld

ASUS says the Ally X and X20 run a new, smaller FSR 4.1 model, "less than half the size of the original INT8 model", tuned for the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. AMD describes it as a streamlined version built for handheld and mainstream laptop chips.

According to ASUS, the Command Center toggle also swaps the 4.1 model into games that already support FSR 3.1 or newer, so existing games don't need a patch. ASUS puts that at over 400 games and points to AMD's supported-games list for the full set. Games that only support older FSR versions won't get the upgrade, and ASUS advises against stacking FSR with RSR, the driver-level upscaler meant for games without FSR.

AMD promises "a significant leap in image quality" over FSR 3.1, and Notebookcheck reports that AMD cites better fine detail, temporal stability and ghosting than earlier FSR versions. ASUS's announcement gives no frame-rate figures for the Ally, so how much it helps in a given game is still unknown.

## Base Xbox Ally, Legion Go 2, Claw A8, Steam Deck

- **ROG Xbox Ally (Ryzen Z2 A):** ASUS says it "will also be supported with a GPU driver update coming soon", without a date. The same ASUS page contradicts itself: its key points list the base Ally among the models with the preview, so base-model owners may find it in Armoury Crate's Preview Updates tab, though ASUS hasn't confirmed that. Windows Central, citing unnamed sources, reported that base-model drivers would also land by October 23, but ASUS's dated commitment covers only the X and X20.
- **Lenovo Legion Go 2 and MSI Claw A8 (Ryzen Z2 Extreme):** the chip is on AMD's list, but AMD says timing varies by device and tells owners to check with the handheld's maker. AMD's announcement gives no date for either device.
- **Steam Deck:** not on AMD's list. Notebookcheck notes that Valve hasn't confirmed support or a timeline.
- **Xbox Series X|S:** AMD lists it as "coming soon". According to Windows Central, console games will need developer updates to use it.
