Privacy policy

HandheldQuest is a reading site. You don’t need an account, and we don’t ask for personal information.

In short

• We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
• We use Google Analytics only if you accept cookies in the banner. If you reject them or ignore the banner, it doesn’t load.
• We don’t run ads or advertising trackers, and we don’t sell or share personal data.

Statistics and cookies

Cloudflare Web Analytics (always on). A small script from Cloudflare records page views: the page address, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, your country and page load times. It doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t store anything on your device and doesn’t build a profile of you across sites. We see only totals. We use it on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read and keeping the site fast. See Cloudflare’s Web Analytics privacy notes and privacy policy.

Google Analytics (only with your consent). If you click “Accept”, the site loads Google Analytics 4. It sets these cookies on handheldquest.com:

Google Analytics records the pages you view, how you arrived, how long you stay, your device, browser and approximate location (city level, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 doesn’t store). Advertising features and Google signals are off, so the data isn’t used for ads. We keep Google Analytics data for 14 months. Google processes it, including in the United States, under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; see how Google uses data from sites that use its services and Google’s privacy policy. The legal basis is your consent.

Changing your choice. Use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. If you withdraw consent, the site removes the Google Analytics cookies and stops loading it. Your choice itself is stored in your browser’s local storage under hq-consent, so we don’t ask again on every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Other things that happen when you visit

Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use Cloudflare’s request logs only to keep the site running and find errors.

Compare tray. When you pick handhelds to compare, your selection is kept in your browser’s session storage so it survives moving between pages. It never leaves your device and is cleared when you close the tab.

YouTube videos. Some pages show YouTube videos. Until you press play, only the video thumbnail loads, from Google’s i.ytimg.com server, which sees your IP address. When you press play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com and Google’s privacy policy applies.

Links to other sites. We link to manufacturers, stores and the reviews we cite. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Email. If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and keep a record of corrections.

Your rights

If you’re in the EU, the UK or another place with similar laws, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use or withdraw consent at any time. Write to us at the address below. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Romania that’s the ANSPDCP.

Changes

If we add anything that changes this, such as ads or affiliate programs, we’ll update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.
