AYN Odin 3 Portal pre-orders open: $419 list, $399 at launch, shipping in early November

AYN opened pre-orders for the Odin 3 Portal at 9:30 PM ET on October 22, according to Retro Handhelds. The 7-inch OLED Android handheld lists at $419 for 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and AYN’s store sells it for $399 at launch. AYN says shipping starts in early November.

Prices and configurations

AYN’s store lists four models, each with a struck-through regular price and a lower launch price:

Model	RAM / storage	Regular price	Launch price	Colors
Base	12 GB / 128 GB	$419	$399	Black
Pro	12 GB / 256 GB	$499	$479	Black, White, Cold Grey
Max	16 GB / 512 GB	$579	$549	Black, White, Cold Grey
Max	16 GB / 1 TB	$699	$669	Black, White, Cold Grey

AYN doesn’t say how long the launch prices last. According to Retro Handhelds, the 1 TB model wasn’t part of the first price announcement: AYN added it after asking its community whether they wanted one. AYN lists UFS 3.1 storage for every model.

What changed from the Odin 2 Portal

The Odin 3 Portal keeps the Odin 2 Portal’s layout: a 7-inch 1920×1080 OLED at 120 Hz with a touchscreen, Hall effect sticks and a horizontal body. The new model moves to the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 with an Adreno 830 GPU, the chip in the 6-inch Odin 3. The Odin 2 Portal figures below are from Liliputing’s spec table at its 2024 announcement.

Odin 3 Portal	Odin 2 Portal
Chip	Dragonwing Q8, Adreno 830	Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Adreno 740
Battery	9,000 mAh	8,000 mAh
Charging	60 W	27 W
Weight	450 g	430 g

Prices went up as well. The Odin 2 Portal’s regular prices on AYN’s store are $329, $399 and $499 for its three models, so the cheapest Odin 3 Portal costs $90 more at list. As of October 23, AYN’s store sells the Odin 2 Portal on sale from $259 (regular $329).

Odin 3 Portal or Odin 3?

Both run the same chip, so the choice is about the screen and the price. The Odin 3 has a 6-inch 120 Hz AMOLED and sells for $369 in its 8 GB / 128 GB model on AYN’s store, where it is listed as a Batch 8 pre-order. Against that, the Portal costs $50 more at its regular price ($30 more at its launch price) for a larger 7-inch panel, 4 GB more RAM in the base model and a bigger 9,000 mAh battery. It also weighs more: 450 g against the Odin 3’s 390 g.

AYN hasn’t published battery runtime figures for the Portal, and no full reviews are out yet. The Odin 3’s review consensus is the closest guide to how the Dragonwing Q8 handles emulation. Full specs are on the Odin 3 Portal page, and you can compare it with the Odin 2 Portal and Odin 3.
