Reviewers agree the original ROG Ally with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme was a big step up in screen and speed over the Steam Deck and the first serious Windows rival. They also agree on the costs: battery life of one to two hours in demanding games, and a Windows 11 setup that was buggy and clumsy on a handheld. Published scores are positive but cautious, mostly held back by software and battery.
